AFTER THOUGHTS:

"You Noah, double-doubles are contagious"...

Not only did Joakim Noah (15 points and 16 rebounds on 5/15 FG Shooting) get yet another double-double, but so did Carlos Boozer (23 points and 15 rebounds on 11/15 FG Shooting) and Luol Deng, who we will talk more about later on. Double-doubles must be contagious. That's a good thing, because the Bulls' frontcourt simply dominated last night's game.

Shooting woes for the Shooting Guards...

As good as the Bulls' frontcourt played last night, the Bulls' SG's were equally bad. Ronnie Brewer (0 points on 0/3 FG Shooting) and Kyle Korver (3 points on 0/5 FG Shooting) were no were to be found, offensively, during last night's game against the Boston Celtics. Sadly, that's been a bad trend, for those two, against some of the NBA's contending teams. That needs fixing.

"Deng, it's nice to see Luol close it out"...

After blowing a 16 point lead late in the 3rd Quarter and into the 4th Quarter, Thibs turned to Luol Deng (23 points and 10 assists on 7/15 FG Shooting) to close out the Celtics. He did just that, as he came up with 13 huge points in the 4th Quarter. He showed great leadership, while playing All-Star quality basketball. The Bulls need a second closer, so he needs to stay assertive.

Things are still Rosy even without DRose...

Despite Derrick Rose (DNP) missing his 9th game of the season, the Chicago Bulls keep winning basketball games. After last night's win vs. the Boston Celitcs, the Chicago Bulls improved their record to 7-2 without their All-Star PG in the rotation. That just shows the quality of depth and talent the Bulls have on their roster. When one guy goes down another guy steps up.

* Mike James had 8 pts. and 4 assts. in the win.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls avenged their earlier loss to the C's and Rajon Rondo.

Now, they get a day off before taking on DWill and the NJN for the 3rd time this season. It's unknown whether or not DRose will play or not, but after suffering a toe injury earlier this season, his first game back came against the NJN.

History might repeat itself, as far as DRose returning to the Starting lineup and Chicago adding another victory over New Jersey to their win column.

EARLY THOUGHTS:

It looks like DRose will be missing his 9th game this season.

That means C.J. Watson and JL3 have to step-it-up at the PG position. They can't go 11/32 from the field, like they did last time out vs. BOS, if the Bulls want to come away with the win.

They need to FIND THE ASSIST and keep the turnovers to a minimum. Perhaps Thibs will continue to make Luol Deng more of a facilitator, as his APG have increased, as of late.

There should be a playoff-type atmosphere at the U.C., even with DRose out of the rotation. BOS is coming off a bad loss vs. DET, while CHI is looking to avenge last Sunday's loss on National TV.

Expect to see a hard-fought game.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Noah this, I can get me some double-doubles"...

For the 11th time this season, Joakim Noah (22 points and 11 rebounds on 7/11 FG Shooting) got himself a double-double. That now ties him with Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers, who was selected as an All-Star Center for the Eastern Conference. Perhaps even more impressive than his double-double in points and rebounds was his ability to hit 8/9 FT Attempts last night.

Putting the "D" in "Defective", not "Defense"...

The normally dominant Bulls' defense, coached up by Tom Thibodeau, was bad again last night, especially in the 4th Quarter. The Kings, led by DeMarcus Cousins (28 pts. and 17 rebs. on 10/20 FG Shooting), who had 7 offensive rebounds, were able to come up with 17 offensive rebounds, as a team. Giving up 2nd Chance opportunities almost fueled a Kings' comeback.

* The Kings scored 38 points in the 4th Quarter.

"Point-ing" out some "Forward" thinking...

With Derrick Rose (DNP) still out with back spasms, Luol Deng (23 points and 11 assists on 6/17 FG Shooting) seemed to run the offense through him, as he came up with a career high in assists. As a team, the Chicago Bulls were able to dish out 33 assists, while committing just 13 turnovers. High assists and low turnovers have been the winning formula for this team all year long.

Mobbed by the Bulls' Bench in Chicago...

The Bulls' Bench Mob was in full effect, as they were able to outscore the Kings' bench 44-26, thanks to the efforts of Kyle Korver (18 points on 4/5 3 PT Shooting), Taj Gibson (15 points on 7/8 FG Shooting) and John Lucas III (9 points on 4/8 FG Shooting). Just as important, JL3 was able to come up with 9 assists last night. He did what a PG needs to do, "find the assist".

MOVING FORWARD:

Their defense is lagging, but the Bulls got another win.

With the Celtics up next and Rajon Rondo having put a monsterous triple-double on the Bulls the last time out, DRose must be eager to play on Thursday night.

It would be nice to see him back on the court.

That just gives C.J. Watson, John Lucas III and Mike James the opportunity to shine and be difference-makers. They need to find the assist and keep the turnovers to a minimum.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Noah DRose, Noah Win in Boston"...

Having just missed getting his 11th double-double of the season, Joakim Noah (16 points and 9 rebounds on 6/10 FG Shooting) worked his tail off to try and get his team the victory on Sunday. Unfortunately, his efforts and energy were wasted, as his All-Star PG and All-Star SF were NO SHOWS vs. the Celtics. It's beginning to look like he should have been the Bulls 2nd All-Star.

Putting the "small" in the "Small Forward" position...

For somebody who was just named to his 1st NBA All-Star game, Luol Deng (10 points on 3/12 FG Shooting) came up pretty "small" yesterday vs. the Boston Celtics. In fact, he's been rather mediocre, and that's a stretch, over his last 3 games. Versus the Hornets he only scored 9 points and versus the Bobcats he only came up with 12 points. That's not All-Star quality.

"Point-ing" out who came to play and who did not...

It's surprising that last year's MVP, DRose (DNP), couldn't MAN-UP and play vs. a CONTENDING team and rival, like the Boston Celtics, but had the ability to suit up versus a putrid NON-CONTENDER, like the New Orleans Hornets. Quite frankly, that's IRRESPONSIBLE. In his absence, Rajon Rondo (32 points, 15 Assists and 10 rebounds) recorded an historic triple-double.

* Certain people don't have their priorities in order.

Let's "point" out some selfish play...

An NBA Point-Guard is supposed to "share" the basketball and get his teammates involved in the game. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though C.J. Watson (22 points on 8/23 FG Shooting) and John Lucas III (8 points on 3/9 FG Shooting) understand that. They combined for only 7 Assists yesterday versus the Boston Celtics, as they selfishly went 11/32 from the field.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls finished their 9-game road trip with a 6-3 record.

On paper that looks good, but in reality, their effort and execution could have been a lot better.

A 6-game home-stand awaits. Time for a new winning steak.

CHI is looking to make a championship statement on National TV, while BOS is looking to show they are playoff contenders after losing 2 games in a row. Thus, both teams have a lot to play for.

It should be a playoff atmosphere.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Yes, I Noah how to get double-doubles"....

For the 10th time this season, Joakim Noah (17 points and 14 rebounds on 7/9 FG Shooting) recorded a double-double. That puts him just 1 double-double behind Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers, who was selected as an All-Star Center this season. That's something to be motivated about. And once again, positive energy and effort equal excellance for the Chicago Bulls.

Let me "Assist" you in not playing street basketball...

Obviously, the Chicago Bulls won last night's game vs. the Charlotte Bobcats' by 31 points, but CJ Watson (5 assists) and John Lucas III (2 Assists) were only able to combine for 7 Assists. At times, they looked more like street-ballers, rather than NBA Point-Guards. Thankfully they were playing against an awful basketball team. Moving forward, they need to "find the assist".

Putting the "D" back in the word "dominant"...

For the second straight game, Tom Thibodeau's defense was able to hold an opponent under 70 points for the game. That's what you call a "dominant defense". Granted, the New Orleans Hornets and Charlotte Bobcats have some bad offenses, but that shouldn't discredit the hard work the Bulls' players are putting in to limit their "opponents points per game" and "field goal %".

Winning BIG, while focusing on BIGGER goals...

Over their last 5 games, all wins, the Chicago Bulls have beaten their opponents by an average of 20 points per game. Needless to say, they have been winning BIG lately. That said, with BIGGER goals in mind (aka an NBA Championship), it was smart to give Derrick Rose (DNP) some rest. It's best to have him ready to go vs. CONTENDING teams, rather than "want-to-be's".

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls blew out the Bobcats, like they should have.

Now, it's onto "Bean-town" to take on the Celtics.

DRose should be well-rested and ready to make another MVP statement on national television, while his team looks to show that they are on a (championship) mission.

EARLY THOUGHTS:

This is a game CHI should win, with or without DRose.

Getting off to a strong start like they did vs. MIL, NJN and NOH could put CHA away early. Again, that depends on how good CHI's ball and player movement are.

We'll have to wait and see if CHI can reach 29 assists for the 3rd game in a row. The "winning formula" of high assists and low turnovers is nearly un-beatable.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"As I said, I Noah how to get double-doubles"...

For the 9th time this season, Joakim Noah (13 points and 10 rebounds on 6/7 FG Shooting) collected a double-double. Without a doubt, his postive energy and effort lead to team excellance. He proved that again last night, as he led the way for the Bulls' BIGS to dominate the game vs. the Hornets. If he keeps playing this good, he'll be avg. 10+ pts. and 10+ rbs. before long.

"No rest for the weary", unless your name is Rip...

Thank God Thibs didn't give the Bulls' best player, DRose (6 points & 6 assists on 3/5 FG Shooting), the night off vs. an under-maned NOH team (sarcasm). It's not like DRose could use the rest or anything (sarcasm). Afterall, DRose's stats & level of play haven't been underwhelming these last two games (sarcasm). Plus, the NOH are a playoff contending team (sarcasm).

* Don't forget Rip is the franchise player, not DRose (sarcasm).

"Share" in the good times of winning basketball...

For the 2nd straight game, the Chicago Bulls were able to dish out 29 assists, while committing less than 14 turnvoers. That's what you call "winning basketball". It's also a positive habit the Bulls need to keep on developing as the NBA playoffs get closer and closer. On the road to an NBA championship, "trust" and "sharing" are two intangibles this Bulls' team will need to bring with them.

The "Taj-manian Devil" shows up in 'Nawlins...

Prior to the game, the New Orleans Hornets classified Taj Gibson (14 points and 6 rebounds on 7/12 FG Shooting) as "The Bull on the Rise", in their pre-game blog, on their official website. Well, that turned out to be a good choice, as he showed his potential with a strong performance, in terms of scoring and rebounding. That said, he still needs to find more "consistency" in his game.

MOVING FORWARD:

CHI got an expected win vs. a depleted NOH team.

There really was no point in having DRose play last night. Quite frankly, there really is no point in having him play vs. CHA on Friday night either.

The last thing CHI needs is to wear DRose down.

Think big picture (aka NBA title).

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Don't worry, I got your back DRose"...

That might have been what C.J. Watson (14 points, 11 Assists and 7 Rebounds on 5/10 FG Shooting) was thinking after DRose (DNP) left the game due to back spasms. Once again, he stepped-up and delivered a "6th-man of the Year" type performance when the Bulls needed it. If he keeps playing like that, he'll actually find himself in the running for that award at the end of this season.

"Run" away and hide from Thibs...

Certainly, Tom Thibodeau couldn't have been happy seeing his team give up a 17-4 run at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Well, he's actually the Head Coach, so it's his job to make better adjustments at Halftime. For some reason, he can't seem to get his team to keep their collective foot on the gas after building a double-digit lead. Because of that, the Starters are getting extended minutes.

* Minutes add up, which can lead to injuries.

"Fast and Furious" auditions are going well...

Just like their game vs. the Milwaukee Bucks the other night, the Chicago Bulls started "fast and furious" vs. the New Jersey Nets. As a team, they were shooting in the mid 60% range or even higher, at times, for most of the 1st Quarter. By the time the 1st Quarter ended, the Bulls found themselves with a 21 point cushion, as they led 35-14. Having a great defense, strong starts are important.

Putting the "back" up plan into action...

Suffering through back spasms, Derrick Rose (4 points on 2/3 FG Shooting) was forced to leave the game after seeing just 11 minutes of game action. Thankfully, the Bulls' have the depth at the PG position to not miss a beat. Now, after the game, DRose seemed to think he could be ready to go for Wednesday's match-up with the Hornets, but it's not like he needs to rush back.

MOVING FORWARD:

It's onto "The Big Easy" to face the Hornets.

Whether DRose plays or not, this should be a win for CHI, as long as they continue to "find the assist" & keep the turnovers down.

That's been their winning formula, so far.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Enough "boards" to build a (champion) "ship"...

Without question, the Chicago Bulls are a championship contender because of their defense and rebounding. Last night, they put their team rebounding on display by having 6 of their players finish with at least 5 rebounds for the game. Luol Deng (21 points and 9 rebounds) and Joakim Noah (14 points and 9 rebounds) each finished 1 rebound shy of a double-double.

The "madman of minute management" is back...

For some unknown and unnecessary reason, Tom Thibodeau decided to play Luol Deng 41 minutes last night, on his return to the court, after missing 7 straight games with a torn ligament in his left wrist. Why do that? There is no rhyme or reason to do so. The Bulls were in full control of last night's game from the opening tip. If he's not careful, he's going to burn out his All-Stars.

* Up 22 pts., Thibs finally pulled his Starters w/ 1:35 left to go.

"Sharing" can be so much fun and worthwhile...

Led by Derrick Rose (26 points on 11/24 FG Shooting), who had 13 Assists, the Chicago Bulls, as a team, finished with 31 Assists for the game. That's some quality "sharing" taking place. With that kind of player and ball movement, the Bulls become a dominant and tough team to beat. Just as good, they only turned to the ball over 13 times for an "Assist/Turnover +/- " of +18.

Auditioning for a role in the "Fast and Furious"...

After quickly scoring 16 of the Bulls first 18 points in the opening quarter, it almost seemed like DRose was auditioning for a role in the "Fast and Furious" movie series. He and his Bulls' teammates could not be stopped, as they managed to outscore the Bucks 30-16 in the 1st Quarter. They followed up that "fast" 1st Qrt. start by "furiously" scoring 37 more points in the 2nd Qrt.

* The Bulls had a Halftime lead of 67-43...game over.

MOVING FORWARD:

Thanks to brilliant schedule-making, the Bulls head back to the NY/NJ area, after just playing there the other day.

This time, they get another game with DWill and the NJN.

It would be nice to see another 30 Assist game by CHI.

EARLY THOUGHTS:

It's always fun to see how many Bulls' fans will show up at the Bradley Center when the Bulls head north to Milwaukee.

With the Bucks having put two defeats on the Heat already this season, the Bulls will need to be at their best tonight.

Maybe DRose can duplicate his 30 and 17 performance in Milwaukee from a season ago. Whether he does or not, winning the Assist & TO battles will be important.

Too big...Too strong...Too fast...Too good...for "The Big Apple".

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Momma's boy" put in work at MSG...

Sporting a new pair of red shoes dedicated to his mother, Derrick Rose (32 points and 13 Assists on 12/26 FG Shooting) was simply "Too big...Too strong...Too fast...and Too good" for the New York Knicks to handle in the 4th Quarter of last night's game. DRose came up with 15 of his 32 points in the final period, as he closed things out for the Bulls at Madison Square Garden.

"Assist" your teammates for 48 mins...

That is a message that Thibs needs to get through to his team. After coming up with 16 Assists and 7 Turnovers in the 1st Half (+9), the Bulls were only able to produce 6 Assists to go with 7 more Turnovers (-1) in the 2nd Half. Just as bad, the NYK only had 9 Assists in the 1st Half to go with their 13 Turnovers (-4), but in the 2nd Half, they tallied 11 Assists and only 1 TO.

* The Bulls can't be so "DRose Dependent". Move the ball.

All about "quality", not quanity, with the rookie...

It is certainly nice to see Thibs start to trust and play his rookie. Jimmy Butler (7 points, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist in nealy 21 minutes of action) delivered some quality minutes for the Bulls last night. His stat-line doesn't stand out, but his maturity on the court does. And, let's not forget to mention his defense on Melo (26 points on 10/26 FG Shooting) in the 4th. Held to 4 pts.

Time to "turnover" a new leaf in the 2nd Half...

After building a solid, double-digit lead of 11 points heading into the locker room, while giving up only 44 1st Half points to the Knicks, the Bulls, once again, played a sloppy 3rd Quarter, as they were outscored 31-22. Whatever Thibs is telling his team at Halftime either isn't getting through to his players or the message needs to change. Losing double-digit leads is a bad trend.

MOVING FORWARD:

It was good to see the Bulls "Escape for N.Y." with a win.

With or without injuries, the Bulls need to keep finding ways to win games. The schedule and the Eastern Conference isn't getting any easier, only tougher.

MIL is up next at the Bradley Center "aka Chicago North".

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Point-ing" out one PG who came to play...

Give credit to C.J. Watson (20 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds on 6/14 FG Shooting), who played hard the entire time he was in the game. Unlike the Bulls' Starters, he didn't quit. He hustled, made shots, created assists and went for rebounds despite his team laying a major egg in Philadelphia last night. Really, he was the only Chicago Bulls' player, who bothered to show up.

"Halftime is over, it's quitting time"...

Shamefully and disgracefully, DRose (3 points & 0 assists in the 2nd Half), CBooz (1 point & 2 rebounds in the 2nd Half), Joakim Noah (2 points & 2 rebounds in the 2nd Half), Ronnie Brewer (2 points in the 2nd Half) and Kyle Korver (3 points in the 2nd Half) quit on their teammates after Halftime. They embarrassed themselves, letdown their team & shamed their fan base.

Not pretending to be contenders in the 3rd...

To Doug Collins' credit, he has his Philadelphia 76'ers team looking like real NBA title contenders, thus far in the season. They came out of the halftime locker room and put a whooping on the Chicago Bulls. They beat last season's Eastern Conference Finalists into submission. They simply out-hustled, out-played and out-scored the Bulls 26-11 in the 3rd Quarter. It was difficult to watch.

Mobbed by a "Young" Philadelphia bench...

Led by Thaddeus Young (19 points & 8 rebounds on 7/12 FG Shooting), the Philadelphia 76'ers bench dominated last night's game. Unbelievably and inexcusably, they were able to score 50 points on Tom Thibodeau's vaunted defense. They put the much publicized "Bulls Bench Mob" to shame. It makes you think John Paxson and/or Gar Forman need to add more depth.

MOVING FORWARD:

The "City of Brotherly Love" didn't show much love.

It's onto the "Big Apple" to face the New York Knickerbockers.

Hopefully a 48 minute effort and some better defense is on the agenda. Injuries are apart of the game, but quitting never should be apart of the equation.

Chicago is a blue-collar town and working class city. The fans of this team and city expect no-less then the same attitude and effort from their sports teams.

Having had losses against IND and MIA over the last week, tonight's game vs. PHI is somewhat of a statement game for the depleted Chicago Bulls.

They will be short-handed again with both Rip Hamilton and Luol Deng still nursing injuries. Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer will need to step-up in their place.

There are no excuses in pro sports. It's time to make a statement.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Yeah, I Noah how to get double-doubles"...

For the 5th straight game, Joakim Noah (14 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists on 5/6 FG Shooting) recorded a double-double. In fact, he came awfully close to getting a triple-double. His energy and effort levels have gone to an All-Star level, as of late. With 1 day left in the All-Star voting, his recent streak of double-doubles should garner him some more fan votes.

Can't get rest, cus they keep "turning over"...

After finishing the 1st Half with 4 nice assists, while committing just 6 turnovers over the first 24 minutes of the game, which gave the Bulls an 11 point lead heading into the lockerroom, they got very sloppy with the basketball and turned it over 13 more times in the 2nd Half. So, as the Bulls' lead, which grew to 22 points, began to shrink, thanks to TO's, the Starters couldn't get rest.

* With 19 TO's, be happy that WAS can't shoot.

Found some good "hot sauce" in D.C....

In the starting lineup due to the continuous injuries that the Bulls can't seem to get over, Kyle Korver (17 points on 5/12 3pt Shooting) seized the opportunity, at least in the 1st Half, as he was able to knock down 4 3 pt shots and score 14 points before Halftime. His scoring is always a welcomed spark for this Bulls' offense. His production did slow down in the 2nd Half (3 pts).

That's "D" as in "Determined" to make ammends...

After feeling like he let his team and city down against the Miami Heat, DRose (35 points and 8 assists on 10/20 FG Shooting) was determined to make ammends and take his frustrations out on the Washington Wizards. Well, to no one's surprise, he did just that. He played aggressive basketball throughout, as he made 14/15 FTA's and came up with a season high in points.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls got an expected win vs. WAS, even w/ injuries.

PHI is a much tougher opponent, than WAS. They lead the Atlantic Division and have the best "point differential" in the NBA.

After losing to IND and MIA, the Bulls need a statement win. They'll have their chance to get it tomorrow in "The City of Brotherly Love".

The Bulls need to avoid a letdown after losing in MIA.

They should be motivated to get back on the winning track. That said, they can't take the Wizards lightly, because they have the talent to pull an upset. They showed that by beating the OKC Thunder at home earlier this season.

DRose and his fellow teammates need to up their Assist count, while keeping the turnovers to a minimum. At the same time, having given up 95 points or more to 4 straight opponents, they need to tighten up their defense.

For the 4th straight game, Joakim Noah (11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists on 4/6 FG Shooting) got a double-double for the Bulls. His energy and effort levels have been outstanding, as of late. After struggling to find his rhythm during the early part of the season, it seems like he's gone back to doing what he does best, running the floor, boxing out & getting a lot of hustle points.

Under-achieving and hearing the "Booz"...

Despite scoring some real easy and open baskets in the 4th Quarter, Carlos Boozer (10 points and 9 rebounds on 4/8 FG Shooting) was a virtual NO SHOW yesterday vs. Chris Bosh (24 points and 12 rebounds on 8/14 FG Shooting) and the Heat. He just continues to under-achieve and not live up to the huge contract he received two summers ago. Trade or Amnesty?

* And his kid was seen on ABC chanting "Let's go Heat"...SMH.

Herm says, "You play to win the game."...

Maybe Tom Thibodeau should hire Herm Edwards as an Assistant Coach, because he plays to win, not to tie. With the Bulls beginning a 9 game road trip, short-handed, and looking at a back-to-back, one could argue that it would have made more sense for Thibs to go for the winning 3 pointer at the end of game, with his team trailing by 2 points, instead playing for Overtime.

* The moral victory was in hand. "Why not go for the win?"

"Even" w/ injuries, we could've "passed" the test...

Short-handed and the odds of beating the defending Eastern Conference Champions, on the road, not in the Bulls favor, they still had a chance to win the game in the final seconds. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to learn from their mistakes made during last season's ECF. DRose (28 FGA's) can't win it by himself. He needs to TRUST his teammates and they need to make shots.

* 15 Assists and 15 turnovers is not a winning formula.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls need to put the Heat loss behind them.

The Wizards are on tap tonight. They were able to beat the OKC Thunder at home, so they can't be over-looked or be taken for granted. They haven't won a lot of games, but they have enough talent to pull an upset.

Time to get back on the winning track.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Pointing" out who the reigning MVP is...

After watching Brandon Jennings (25 points on 10/22 FG Shooting) score 16 1st Quarter points on him, DRose (34 points on 14/24 FG Shooting) took it personally and dominated the rest of the game. He and his teammates held Brandon Jennings to just 9 points the rest of the way, as DRose scored 24 points after the 1st Quarter. Offensively, he needed to take charge and he did.

Just "wing-ing" it up there, hoping it goes in...

With Luol Deng (DNP) and Rip Hamilton (DNP) sitting this game out due to their various injuries, Ronnie Brewer (8 points on 2/13 FG Shooting) and Kyle Korver (9 points on 3/9 FG Shooting) were asked to fill in for them as Starters. They failed to run with that opportunity, this time around. Both guys shot the ball terribly. Their inconsistencies are concerning.

Double (Double) trouble when the BIGS produce...

The Bulls become that much more troubling for their opponents when Carlos Boozer (20 points and 13 rebounds on 8/15 FG Shooting) and Joakim Noah (15 points and 16 rebounds on 6/10 FG Shooting) are producing double-doubles. They played some of their best basketball of the season last night vs. the Milwaukee Bucks. Efforts like that are needed on the road trip.

Every title team needs a quality "6th-Man"...

That's probably a true statement when you look at past NBA Champions such as the Mavs, who have Jason Terry, the Lakers, who had Lamar Odom, and the Spurs, who have Manu Ginobilli. Thus, it's important for someone like C.J. Watson (13 points on 5/11 FG Shooting) to consistently score in double-figures, off the bench, for the Bulls. He delivered last night.

MOVING FORWARD:

That was a good bounce-back win for the Bulls after suffering their 1st home loss of the season on Wednesday vs. the Pacers.

Their defense isn't where it needs to be with Luol Deng out of the lineup. That said, there is no room for excuses as the Bulls get ready to play their main rival, the Heat, on Sunday.

Everyone needs to bring their A-game, offensively and defensively. The Heat are no joke. They are hungry for an NBA Championship too.

MIL and the NJN seem like a mirror image of each other.

Both teams are led by their Starting PG. They each have decent shooters on the perimeter. And, they both are missing their Starting Center due to injury.

Thus, it seems logical for the Bulls to use the same game-plan vs. MIL, that they used vs. NJN on Monday.

In other words, aggressive play, on both ends of the floor, which yields high assists and low turnovers.

"Chicago's Finest Brew" came to play...

With Luol Deng (DNP) sitting his second straight game out due to a torn ligament in his left wrist, Ronnie Brewer (20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists on 8/15 FG Shooting) was once again called upon to start at the Small Forward Position. He ran with that opportunity and might have played his best game as a Chicago Bulls' player. It's too bad his great effort was wasted.

"Selfish" basketball is not winning basketball...

After playing unselfishly brilliant "team" basketball on Monday vs. the New Jersey Nets, where the Bulls scored 110 points on 33 assists, without Luol Deng and Taj Gibson in the lineup, for some reason, after Halftime vs. IND, the Bulls decided to play "selfish" basketball. The stats don't lie. They had 13 assists in the 1st Half and only 6 assists in the 2nd Half. Losing basketball.

* The Bulls got outscored 31-20 in the 3rd Qrt.

"The 4th Quarter is MVP-time", but not last night...

Despite the "selfish" 3rd Qrt, which saw the Bulls settle for jumpshot after jumpshot, mainly by Rip Hamilton (17 points on 6/20 FG Shooting), the Bulls were right there in the 4th Qrt with a chance to win. Just like Game 1 of last season's playoffs vs. IND, DRose (24 points on 9/19 FG Shooting) passed to a 3pt. shooter for the win. That's fine, but his 4th Qrt stats, not fine.

* In the 4th Qrt, DRose had 2 pts. & 0 FTA's.
* Gm 1 vs. IND last season, 9 pts. & 5 FTA's in 4Q.

That's "G" as in "god awful", not "good guard play"...

As unimpressive as CBooz (11 points on 5/14 FG Shooting) was, last night's loss has to fall squarely on the shoulders of DRose, Rip Hamilton and CJ Watson (1 point on 0/6 FG Shooting). Their "guard play" was horrendous, especially in the 2nd Half. Going a combined 15/45 from the field says it all. It was long jumpshot after long jumpshot. "Selfish" basketball.

MOVING FORWARD:

Injuries can't be an excuse. This IND loss was self-inflicted.

It should leave a bitter, if not sour, taste in the mouth's of each Bulls' player and coach.

MIL is up next. It's not wise to overlook them with MIA lurking.

Despite losing last night to ORL, the Pacers look strong.

The Pacers visit the United Center for the first time since rekindling their rivalry with the Bulls during last season's playoffs. It was quite an entertaining 1st Round series.

DRose had to bail his team out in 3 out of the 5 games. That shouldn't be the case this time around thanks to the acquistion of Rip Hamilton at SG and the improved Bulls' passing game.

That said, this won't be an easy game with Luol Deng and Taj Gibson out of the lineup. Danny Granger and Tyler Hansborough could give the Bulls fits, if not defended properly.

It should be a fun game to watch.

"Smile...Derrick Rose is back in the Starting Lineup."

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Getting some "R&R" at the United Center...

Normally, "R&R" stands for "Rest & Relaxation", but last night it stood for "Rose & Rip". DRose (22 points & 8 assists on 9/16 FG Shooting) made his return to the court after missing 4 straight games. Needless to say, he picked up right where he left off. Along with his backcourt-mate, Rip Hamilton (22 points & 10 assists on 10/16 FG Shooting), they dominated the game.

"We need 48 minutes of intensity"...

That was a saying commonly used by the late, great Chicago Bulls' player and TV analyst, Norm Van Lier. Unfortunately, the defensive intensity wasn't there for the Bulls in the 2nd Half of last night's game. The Bulls allowed the Nets to score 52 2nd Half points, which added up to 95 points for the game. That's 10 points over their season OPPG average. Time to tighten up the defense.

"Sharing" is so fun and worth the effort...

It's really fun to watch the Bulls make an effort to "share" the basketball. Last night was no different, as the Bulls were able to get 6 of their players in double-figures, in terms of scoring, off of 33 assists. That kind of passing is hard to beat, just ask the New Jersey Nets, who couldn't catch-up or defend the Bulls excellant ball and player movement. The winning formula has been found.

"Rip"-ing up the record books...

Congratulations goes out to Rip Hamiltion, who scored his 15,000th NBA point last night during the Bulls win over the Nets. Through it all, he has stayed humble and appreciative of all the teammates he's had throughout his ever-lasting and superb NBA career. It seems to go both ways, as his teammates are humbled and appreciative of his longevity and leadership.

MOVING FORWARD:

It was great to see DRose back in the Starting Lineup.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Luol Deng will be in the Starting Lineup in the near future. As always, that just provides an opportunity for someone else on the team to step-up and produce.

The Pacers, who have rekindled a great rivalry, are up next.

They need to know who controls the Central Division.

If Derrick Rose plays, this could turn into a another great PG showdown. Undoubtedly, Deron Williams will be motivated, on his return to Illinois and the United Center.

Now, the last time these two All-Star PG's met up at the UC they put on a quite a show. DWill finished with 28 points and 17 assists, while DRose came up with 25 points and 13 assists of his own.

In the end, DWill prevailed. Of course, CBooz and Korver were on DWill's team back then. That's not the case this time around.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Point" him out and he'll play...

The depth the Bulls have shown at the PG position, ever since experiencing some injuries at that spot, has been nothing short of astonishing. Last night was no different, as Mike James (9 points and 10 assists on 4/6 FG Shooting), who was called in to replace John Lucas III (DNP) at the back-up PG position, nearly came up with a double-double. That's rising to the occasion.

"Foot fell asleep in the 4th Quarter"...

After the building a comfortable 19 point lead, the Bulls' Starters got lazy in the 4th Quarter and decided to take their collective foot off the gas. That allowed the Bobcats to go on a nice run and cut the lead down to 6 points in the final minutes. There's no excuse for dumb turnovers and bad fouls late in games. Try that against MIA, IND or OKC and the Bulls will get beat.

20/20 (20) was on again last night...

Offensively, the Bulls' Starters came to play. In particular, Rip Hamilton (20 points on 9/15 FG Shooting), Luol Deng (22 points on 9/18 FG Shooting) and Carlos Boozer (23 points on 10/22 FG Shooting) really stepped up their offense with the reigning League MVP out of action for the 4th straight game. It goes back to "sharing" the ball and keeping the turnovers down.

* The Bulls had 26 assists and only 11 turnovers (+15).

"Never really been a fan of M*A*S*H"...

The Bulls really should pursue an endorsement deal with a company who makes "walking boots." After spraining an ankle vs. the Cavs a night earlier, both Joakim Noah (DNP) and Taj Gibson (DNP) joined DRose (DNP) on the bench. It's great the Bulls have the depth to keep winning, but it's sad for the fans who pay a lot of $ to come out to the UC to watch those guys play.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls' depth has garnered the spotlight with all the injuries.

It's great to beat bad teams with back-ups, but the competition gets a whole lot tougher this upcoming week.

DWill, who put up 28 points and 17 assists vs. DRose and hung a loss on the Bulls the last time he played at the UC, is back in town on Monday with his Nets team.

His heart may or may not be in New Jersey right now, but he'll have a lot of his Illinois fans at the game on Monday, so look for him to play with passion.

It's time for DRose and the other Starters to play.

That must have been what Thibs was chanting in the Bulls' huddle after the 1st Qrt. His team must have heard him too, because after giving up 26 1st Qrt. pts. to the Cavs, on 6/9 3 pt. FG Shooting, Thibs' defense only allowed 1 more 3 pt. field goal and a total of 49 pts. over the last 3 Qrts. of the game. Kyrie Irving, who scored 11 pts. in the 1st Qrt., had 2 pts. the rest of the way.

"Turnover" and look away...

Despite pulling away and winning the game by 39 points, the 2nd Half was difficult to watch, as the Bulls sloppily turned the ball over 14 times after Halftime. That gave them a total of 20 turnovers for the game. Thankfully, the Cavs couldn't capitalize off those turnovers. If those turnovers happened against a title contending team, the outcome would be different.

Passing the "road" test...

The Bulls improved to 3-1 without the reigning League MVP, Derrick Rose (DNP). Perhaps more importantly, they won their first road game without him. That's a positive statement to make, no matter who the opponent was. Impressively, the Bulls continue to share the ball, as they had 27 assists, as a team, and saw 5 of their players finish in double-figures, in terms of points.

A rather nice "block" party in Cleveland...

The Bulls were able to set a new franchise record for "Blocks in a Game", last night in Cleveland, by coming up with 16 blocks for the game. Joakim Noah, CBooz, Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler had 2 blocks apiece, while Omer Asik came up with 3 blocks of his own. That said, the franchise-setting block was delivered by none other than "The White Mamba".

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls go back-to-back, yet again. This time vs. CHA at the UC.

DRose could very well miss his 4th straight game. It would be nice to see him back in the lineup in front of the home fans. If not, the team will just have to keep train on the tracks without him.

Welcome to "The Booz Cruise"...

Add another catch-phrase to Stacey King's ever-expanding collection. "The Booz Cruise". Carlos Boozer (31 points and 6 rebounds on 14/21 FG Shooting) was cruising last night, especially in the 1st Half, as he had 26 points on 12/15 FG Shooting. He couldn't be stopped during the first 24 mins. He can really be great when he's aggressive and making quick decisions.

"Pointing" out some lazy defense...

The feared Tom Thibodeau defense has shown a few flaws over the last 2 games. Last night, the Bulls gave up 97 points to the Phoenix Suns, who were led by the future Hall of Famer, Steve Nash (25 points and 9 assists on 10/13 FG Shootin). He had his way with the Bulls' defense just like Rudy Gay and the Memphis Grizzlies did the day before. 99 oppg over 2 games is not good.

It feels so good to "share"...

With DRose (DNP) out of action for the second straight game, the Bulls played a very unselfish brand of basketball, as their ball movement was crisp and their scoring was balanced. As a team, they produced 31 assists, while committing just 6 turnovers. That's a +25 differential, as opposed to the -7 they ended up with in their MEM loss. It's great to see all 5 Starters in double-figures.

Better "Rip" up that DNP list...

For the first time in 9 games, Rip Hamilton (11 points and 6 assists on 5/11 FG Shooting) was in the starting lineup for the Chicago Bulls. His veteran savvy and playmaking skills were a very nice addition to the Bulls' rotation last night vs. PHX. He played like he hadn't missed a beat. He was aggressive on offense and did a very nice job of setting up his teammates for easy scores.

MOVING FORWARD:

That was a great bouce-back win for the Bulls, minus DRose.

They redeemed themselves after their poor showing in MEM.

There's two days off and time to heal before heading to CLE.

Scoring buckets from the bench...

About the only bright spots from yesterday's loss to the Grizzlies was the play of Taj Gibson (16 points and 5 rebounds on 6/8 FG Shooting) & CJ Watson (17 points and 3 assists on 5/10 FG Shooting). They combined for 33 points off the bench. If you exclude Luol Deng's 20 points, the rest of the Bulls' players scored a total of 33 points. In other words, 3 players showed up.

* At least Thibs took accountability for his team's shotty play.

SG's should know how to shoot and score...

It was around 7 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter before a Bulls' SG got his name in the scoring column. Ronnie Brewer (6 points on 3/9 FG Shooting) and Kyle Korver (0 points on 0/4 FG Shooting) were no where to be found, on offense, for the second straight game. That's inexcusable and unacceptable. Once again, this lack of production at the SG can't become a trend.

* A trade for a bonafide scorer at SG may need to happen.

"Wipe that smile off your face, cus losing isn't funny"...

That's a message that Joakim Noah (2 points and only 5 rebounds on 1/4 FG Shooting) needs to get through his brain. For whatever the reason, he was caught smiling in front of the camera with 3 mins. and 18 secs. left in the game and the Bulls down by 19 points. That's just down-right shameful, much like his limited offense is. He needs a wake-up call (aka a benching or a trade).

* Since signing his $12 million per year deal, he's stunk it up.

Playing "Tic-Tac-TOE", not NBA basketball...

For the second time this season, Derrick Rose (DNP) missed a game due to his sore big toe. Considering how the Grizzlies PG, Mike Conley (20 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds on 9/13 FG Shooting) absolutely lit up the Bulls' defense, this loss falls squarely on the toe of the League MVP. His failure to "give it a toe", excuss me, "give it a go" cost the Bulls their winning streak.

* It's his choice whether or not to play vs. PHO. Stay tuned.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Memphis loss is over and done with. Phoenix is the 2nd game of a back-to-back. Time to get another winning streak going.

Not an "Energizer Bunny, but a "Taj-manian Devil"...

With the Bulls struggling to put away the woeful Toronto Raptors, Tom Thibodeau called on the "Taj-manian Devil", to provide some energy. Better known as Taj Gibson (11 points and 12 rebounds on 4/9 FG Shooting), the Bulls' back-up PF sparked the team to a victory by coming up with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 huge block and 1 very nice putback in the 4th Quarter.

That's "B" as in bricks, not buckets...

For really the first time all season, both Ronnie Brewer (2 points on 1/5 FG Shooting) and Kyle Korver (0 points on 0/3 FG Shooting) failed to impact the game and produce offensively. They mine as well have been sitting on the bench next to Rip Hamilton (another DNP), who is still trying to heal his injured groin. "No offense at the SG position" can't become a trend.

"Double" my pleasure x 3...

As predicted, the opportunity was there for a few of the Chicago Bulls' players to collect some double-doubles this past week. Well, that opportunity was taken advantage of vs. the Raptors, as Derrick Rose (18 points and 11 assists on 7/20 FG Shooting), Carlos Boozer (17 points and 13 rebounds on 8/15 FG Shooting) and Taj Gibson each earned one. That's great to see.

There is a "D" in "UniteD Center"...

After holding the Toronto Raptors to just 64 points for the game, the Chicago Bulls have now moved into the NBA's top spot, as far as "Opponents Points Per Game" goes. They are giving up a stingy 83.8 points per game. At the United Center, they are extremely tough to score against. Thus far, in 5 home games, they are giving up only 66.8 points per game. That's some nasty defense.

After winning all 5 games this past week, the Bulls get a day off.

They visit the Grizzlies in celebration of MLK Jr. Day tomorrow.

"Start-ing" to come together...

It was great to see each of the Bulls' 5 Starters end up in double-figures, in terms of scoring. DRose (9/21 FG Shooting) had 25 points to go with his 7 assists. Luol Deng (8/17 FG Shooting) had 21 points to go with 16 rebounds. Joakim Noah (4/10 FG Shooting) had 10 points to go with his 12 rebounds. Ronnie Brewer (5/7 FG Shooting) had 12 points to go with his 4 assists and 4 rebounds. And, CBooz (6/10 FG Shooting) had 12 points to go with his 8 rebounds. Great balance.

Letting up can lead to losses...

After building a comfortable 19 point Hafltime lead, the Bulls suffered a letdown in the 3rd Quarter, as they allowed the Celtics to outscore them 26-15. Getting outscored by double-digits in a quarter was a weakness last season for the Bulls. Thibs, as well as DRose, need to do a better job of leading & "keeping their foot on the gas", so these letdowns don't become a trend.

It's "closing" time ladies and gentlemen...

Last season's MVP did what MVP's do...be a closer. With the Bulls seeing their 20 point lead shrink to 1 in the 4th Quarter, DRose kept his team composed and then proceeded to finish off the Celtics. He scored 12 of his 25 points over the final 12 mins. of the game. During that time, he put on an offense display, as he hit two huge 3pt. shots & made one ridiculous layup.

Anybody "C-Booz" in the 2nd Half...

After scoring 12 points in a strong 1st Half of basketball, Carlos Boozer was no were to be found, on the offensive-end of the floor, during the 2nd Half vs. the Celtics. It's mind-boggling how a guy with that much talent was held scoreless over the final 24 minutes of the game. Quite frankly, it's unacceptable. Clearly, he needs to be more aggressive and earn his $ down the stretch.

* It's a bad trend to see him ineffective in the 4th Qrt.

MOVING FORWARD:

Winning on the road versus a championship caliber team is impressive.

Losing the next day, at home, versus a non-playoff team is unacceptable.

The Raptors can't be over-looked or taken for granted. Instead, they need to be treated as if "they are in the way" of an NBA Championship.

Some rbs. & assts. mixed in with the "Hot Sauce"...

Give credit to Kyle Korver (14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists on 5/10 FG Shooting), who was clearly the best Shooting Guard on the court, last night, at the United Center. In a night where both offenses looked dreadful, he came in off the bench and played an all-around complete game. If he could bottle up that effort, he'd find himself in the running for "6th-man of the Year".

The object of the game is to put the ball in the basket...

Last night's Wizards vs. Bulls game had to be one of the ugliest shooting performances ever seen by fans at the United Center. The Bulls only managed to shoot a whopping 36% from the field, while the woeful Wizards finished at 31%. Like I said, it was UGLY. This was the night to get a rebound and the Bulls got plenty of them. They grabbed 62 rebounds, 23 being offensive.

"Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrre's Johnny"....

Welcome to the spotlight John Lucas III (25 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds on 11/28 FG Shooting). With DRose out with a sprained toe, suffered a night earier in Minnesota, and CJ Watson still recovering from an elbow injury, the Bulls #3 Point Guard seized the starting opportunity and almost came up with a triple-double. Give him credit for stepping-up and playing big.

"Deng" it, the ball won't go in the basket this month...

Call it tired legs. Call it poor shot selection. Call it what you want. Fact is, Luol Deng (12 points and 15 rebounds on 5/21 FG Shooting) is having a rough time shooting the basketball during the month of January. After last night's dreadful shooting performance, he is now 40 for 112 from the field, that's 36%, to start the new year. Those stats won't help his All-Star chances.

* Luol Deng needs to be a consistent 2nd scorer for the Bulls.

It's a day of rest, as the Bulls head to Bean-town.

Hopefully they can heal up and take care of business vs. the C's.

"Deng" good in the 2nd Half...

After having two straight poor shooting and scoring games for the Bulls, Luol Deng (21 points and 11 rebounds on 9/17 FG Shooting) came up big in the 2nd Half of last night's game vs. the T-Wolves. He scored 9 of his 13 2nd Half points in the 3rd Quarter with the Bulls struggling and that huge lead they built up disappearing. His scoring kept the Bulls in front though.

A comfortable lead equaled comfortable D...

After building a comfortable 24 point lead mid-way through the 2nd Quarter, the Bulls got lazy with the ball, missed 10 straight jumpshots and played some really comfortable, if not soft defense, as the T-Wolves finished off the 2nd Quarter on a 20-2 run. That should never happen with Thibs and DRose running things for the Bulls. This team can't relax on D or settle for jumpshots.

Nice "bookends" to go w/ those "volumes" on scoring...

Well, last year's MVP certainly showed the rookie from Spain who the top Point Guard in the NBA is. Derrick Rose (31 points and 11 assists on 12/22 FG Shooting) started fast, scoring 14 points in the 1st Quarter and he finished strong, scoring 14 points in the 4th Quarter. When it was all said and done, he had a season high in points and the Bulls were back atop the East.

"Rip" roaring time with "Hamilton" out of action...

With the Bulls key veteran acquisition, Rip Hamilton, still suffering through an early season groin injury, Ronnie Brewer (17 points on 5/10 FG Shooting) and Kyle Korver (13 points on 5/6 FG Shooting) have played solid basketball for the Bulls at the Shooting Guard position. Last night vs. the T-Wolves was no exception, as they combined for 30 points. A nice surprise.

MOVING FORWARD:

The last of the Bulls "3 games in 3 nights" is tonight vs. WAS.

The Wizards finally got their 1st win of the season, albeit vs. the Toronto Raptors, at home. That said, this game shouldn't be looked at as an easy win. It will take another complete team effort to keep this new winning streak going.

It feels good to be back atop the Eastern Conference Standings.

Watching "20/20" and playing crazy "8's"...

It was nice to see both Derrick Rose (22 points and 8 assists on 8/16 FG Shooting) and Carlos Boozer (23 points and 8 rebounds on 9/13 FG Shooting) flirt with a double-double last night vs. the Pistons. They certainly bounced back from their rough games vs. the Hawks. This is a good week for them to start climbing up that "double-double" chart. They really need to.

"Deng" it, somebody forgot how to score...

Scoring a total of 12 points over two games is not the way to make an All-Star impression. For whatever the reason, Luol Deng (4 points on 2/12 FG Shooting) has decided to go into a shooting and/or scoring slump. That needs to be a mini-slump, not an extended one, as he's gone a combined 6 of 25 from the field in his last two games. To make matters worse, no FTA's vs. DET.

* One has to wonder if Thibs has given Deng tired legs.

Not a "Mad-man of Minutes" last night...

With 5 basketball games in 6 nights this week, which includes 3 games over 3 consecutive nights, thankfully, Tom Thibodeau decided to cut back on DRose's and Luol Deng's minutes. Instead of having them finish the game, pile up their minutes and risk injury, like was the case when the Bulls played the Pistons in Detroit, Thibs trusted his depth and let them close.

* DRose and Deng each played around 33 mins vs. DET.

"NO-ah" shooting, "NO-ah" scoring...

Oddly, Joakim Noah (4 points and 8 rebounds on 0/0 FG Shooting) had zero FGA's last night vs. DET. That doesn't seem to be good for the Bulls' offense. One would think that Joakim Noah needs to be looked at as a scoring option for the Bulls or they will essentially be playing 4 against 5 on offense. A guy making $12 million dollars per season can't just be a rebounder.

MOVING FORWARD:

It's nice to see the Bulls get back on track after that ATL loss.

Minnesota is under .500, but putting up a good fight at home. Therefore, the Bulls need to be at their best and play aggressive basketball, on both ends, for 48 mins.

There should be some good individual match-ups in this game.

It should be a fun game to watch.

"Benched", but not soon enough...

Quite frankly, Tom Thibodeau should have benched his starters in the 1st Quarter, not wait until the 4th Quarter. DRose (8 points & 5 turnovers on 3/10 FG Shooting), Luol Deng (8 points on 4/13 FG Shooting), Ronnie Brewer (3 points on 1/2 FG Shooting), Carlos Boozer (12 points on 6/11 FG Shooting) and Joakim Noah, who we'll get to later, flat out stunk it up.

* Combined, that's 32 pts. for the Bulls' Starters...shameful!!!

Plenty left in the "Reserves"...

At least the Bulls' reserves decided to show up and compete last night vs. the Hawks. Led by John Lucas (16 points on 6/12 FG Shooting), Kyle Korver (13 points and 5 assists) and the rookie, Jimmy Butler (12 points on 3/3 FG Shooting), the Bulls' Bench combined to score 62 points, while grabbing 25 rebounds. Unlike the Bulls' Starters, they EARNED their keep and $.

"Starting" to stink at "Center"...

For someone who just received a HUGE paying contract extension last off-season, Joakim Noah (1 point and only 4 rebounds on 0/4 FG Shooting) is playing like he belongs in the D-League, not the NBA. Based on his lack of offensive moves in the paint, he should put down the ping-pong balls and/or brunettes during the off-season, and instead, set up a workout session with Hakeem.

* 3 total points scored in 2 games vs. ATL...sad & ugly.

"Assisting" the Hawks in their victory...

Just like their first meeting of the season, the Bulls came out flat and uninspired vs. the Hawks, as they once again found themselves trying to dig out of a large 1st Quarter deficit. The "Assists to Turnovers" keeps tellling the story. After the 1st Quarter, the Bulls had 4 Assists and 5 Turnovers (-1), while the Hawks had 10 Assists and 0 Turnovers (+10). Hawks led 33-18.

* Just like before, the Bulls finished a +2 in Assts/TO's.

MOVING FORWARD:

As a team, the Bulls were simply an embarrassment vs. ATL.

Better leadership is needed, as they prepare for 3 games in 3 days.

The grind towards the #1 Seed in the East begins again on Monday.

EARLY THOUGHTS:

The Bulls needed a HUGE 4th Qrt. rally to beat ATL last time.

A high "Assists to Turnovers" rate has been the winning formula for the Bulls, so far this season. In their first meeting of the season at the UC, the Bulls finished the game at a +2, in terms of "Assists to Turnovers".

The only other game this season where Bulls had a lower plus/minus than that was vs. GSW when they finished at -4. Coincidentally, the Bulls lost the GSW game and nearly lost that ATL game. Thus, the Bulls need to do a better job, this time around, of getting more assists, while not turning the ball over.

This is ATL's third game in 3 days. It's a back-to-back for the Bulls.

Depth could make the difference.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

It's Friday and "20/20 (20)" is on...

The Bulls' Captains certainly came ready to play and score last night in Orlando. Derrick Rose (21 points and 10 assists on 7/18 FG Shooting), Carlos Boozer (20 points and 13 rebounds on 9/19 FG Shooting) and Luol Deng (21 points on 5 assists on 8/16 FG Shooting) each tallied 20 points. DRose and CBooz also finished with double-doubles. That's All-Star quality.

Running and then gunning those 3 pt. shots...

The only down-side to last night's game was the fact that the Bulls' defense gave up three straight 3pt. shots by the Orlando Magic, which helped spark a 16 to 5 run in the 3rd Quarter. That run allowed the Magic to cut a 17 point Bulls lead down to only 6 points. The Bulls did maintain their composure and ended up stretching out the lead again before the end of the Quarter.

* Orlando's Ryan Anderson was only 1/7 from 3pt. land.

"Give me some hot sauce with those 5 eggs"...

It was great to see Kyle Korver (18 points on 5/7 3pt. FG Shooting) find his shooting stoke again. He certainly gave Stacey King, the Bulls TV color analyst, plenty to be animated about. I believe his TV call went something like this, "Would you like some hot sauce with those eggs Neil Funk?" Sounds appetizing...lol. Having a 10+ scorer, a night, off the bench, is so key.

Don't stop "assisting" others, on their way to victory...

The Bulls "assists to turnovers" has been nothing short of brilliant, as of late. The Bulls were certainly brilliant in that category last night vs. the Magic, as they handed out 27 assists, while committing just 12 turnovers. That's a +15, which follows up their +16 vs. the Pistons, their +10 vs. the Grizzlies and their +17 vs. the Clippers. Nothing wrong with sharing. It's a good thing.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls head to Atlanta for their re-match with the Hawks.

Last time out, a 19 point deficit had to be overcome.

It's the 2nd game of a road back-to-back for the Bulls, but it's the 3rd game in 3 days for the Hawks, who have also played 4 OT periods in that stretch. Depth should be a factor.

"A mad-man with the minutes."

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Frontcourt, up front and focused...

The Bulls frontcourt was moved to the front of the class, as far as criticism goes, after coming up with just 19 points, combined, vs. the Hawks a night earlier. However, versus the Pistons, they came focused and ready to produce. Carlos Boozer (19 pts. and 7 rbs.), Joakim Noah (13 pts. and 11 rbs.) and Taj Gibson (12 pts. and 7 rbs.) were the difference-makers in this Bulls victory.

That's "M" as in "Minutes" and "Mad-man"

For whatever the reason, Tom Thibodeau finds it appropriate to over-extend the minutes of his two best all-around players, even with a comfortable double-digit lead. Luol Deng (2 points on 1/6 FG Shooting) was clearly tired after playing 44 mins. the night before vs. ATL. And, DRose (17 points and 10 assists on 7/15 FG Shooting) nearly got injured, badly, playing too long.

* Being stubborn and stupid won't get this team an NBA title.

"And their off", to a strong start in the game...

After starting their game vs the Hawks flat and uninspired, which led to a 12 point Halftime deficit two nights ago, the Bulls came into DET motivated, focused and ready to play. Their energy, effort and execution, as a team, was very good in the first 24 mins. of the game, as they took a 16 point lead into Halftime. With such a tough defense, strong starts are crucial.

"Brew-ing" up some good #'s, but not minutes...

Going back to Tom Thibodeau's mismanagement of the minutes last night vs. DET. Ronnie Brewer (9 points and 3 assists on 4/6 FG Shooting) was well-rested, having played just 23 minutes vs. ATL the night before, and was having a good all-around game vs. DET, but Thibs decided to give him just 16 minutes of playing time. That isn't too smart when Luol Deng needed a rest.

* Thibs' "Mad-man" approach to mins. needs intervention.

MOVING FORWARD:

The Bulls have gotten off to a strong 6-1 start.

That said, the Magic are playing well with a record of 5-2.

Let's hope DRose and Deng get some good rest. They'll need it.

The quest for that #1 overall Seed continues on Friday.

Batman needs his Robin, especially in the 4th Quarter...

With the Bulls down by 14 points heading into the 4th Quarter, Derrick Rose (30 points and 7 assists on 8/22 FG Shooting) scored 17 points in the final 12 minutes, while Luol Deng (21 points and 8 rebounds on 7/15 FG Shooting) added 13 points of his own. That type of "1-2" 4th Quarter punch was great to see, because it was missing during last season's ECF's loss.

1/4 the effort equals 14 point deficits (bad symmetry)...

It's a bit surprising to see the Bulls play flat and uninspired basketball for 3 Quarters, at home, vs. another 4-1 team, who gave them all they can handle during last season's playoffs. There really is no excuse for it. The Hawks were playing the second game of a tough back-to-back, while the Bulls had a day of rest. Tom Thibodeau did a bad job of motivating his team to play.

Unexpected endings (and assists) are a good thing...

With the game tied at 74 and 7 seconds remaining in the 4th Quarter, Joakim Noah (2 points and 4 rebounds on 0/4 FG Shooting) was inserted into the game, after having played just 16 mins. due to foul trouble and bad offense. Well, that decision won the game for the Bulls, as Joakim Noah was unexpectedly able to find Luol Deng for the game-winning layup.

No "Fronting", the Bulls "Frontcourt" needs to score...

Last night, the Bulls frontcourt of Carlos Boozer (11 points), Joakim Noah (2 points), Taj Gibson (4 points) and Omer Asik (2 points) were only able to come up with a combined 19 points. That simply isn't good enough, especially when it comes to the starting Power Forward and the starting Center, who each make over $12 million dollars per season. Learn to score.

"Brew-ing" up a quality start...

With newly acquired Rip Hamilton suffering from a sore groin, Ronnie Brewer (17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists on 6/10 FG Shooting) was given the starting nod at Shooting Guard. He ran with that opportunity and delivered an impressive all-around effort. Also, he clearly worked on his offense during the off-season. He's made 17 of 27 shots, so far this season. Well done.

"Point-ing" out an ugly looking injury...

With the Bulls up 86-46 and just over 10 minutes left in the game, CJ Watson (4 points and 4 assists on 2/4 FG Shooting) tried to thread a pass into the lane, but it got deflected. While diving for the loose ball, he appeared to hyper-extend or possibly even dislocate his elbow, as he hit the floor. Further tests are needed, but it looks like he'll miss some games. Hopefully not a lot.

Boozer family reunion at the UC...

With his Mom and Dad in attendance, Carlos Boozer (17 points and 11 rebounds on 7/10 FG Shooting) seemed inspired, as he was able to collect a double-double in the 1st Half of the game. With positive production like that, John Paxson ought to hook up CBooz's parents with season tickets. We kid, because we care. Seriously though, consistent double/doubles are needed.

LET US "ASSIST" YOU, AS WE "TURNOVER" THE CALENDAR (not the ball)...

Last night, the Bulls were a +10, in terms of Assists (24) to Turnovers (14). That's becoming a winning trend for this team. So far this season, the Bulls are 4-0 when they are at least a +7 in that category. Versus the Lakers they were a +7. Versus the Warriors they were a -4. Versus the Kings they were a +7. And, versus the Clippers they were a +17. Be smart with the ball...win games.

MOVING FORWARD:

It was nice to see the Bulls deliver a blowout last night.

However, the Hawks should put up a tougher fight on Tuesday.

This team needs to keep progressing, on both ends of the floor.

"Pound-for-Pound", the best around...

With the undisputed "Pound-for-Pound" Boxing Champion, Floyd Mayweather, sitting courtside at last night's game, Derrick Rose (29 points and 16 assists on 8/14 FG Shooting) showed who the undisputed "Pound-for-Pound" and best NBA Point Guard is. As great as Chris Paul (15 points and 14 assists on 7/14 FG Shooting) is, DRose put on an MVP-performance.

"Point-ing" out some negative minutes...

As good as DRose and CP3 were last night, CJ Watson (0 points and only 1 assist on 0/5 FG Shooting), was equally bad. That's disappointing given his excellant play just one night earlier vs. the Sacramento Kings. He can't seem to shake the "inconsistency" label. That is something he is going to have to work hard at doing. This team needs him to be a 10 & 5 guy, consistently.

"Start me up, I'll never stop"...

Just had to reference the Mic Jagger, Rolling Stone, song, "Start me up", because that's what happened with the Bulls' Starters last night. They scored early and often, as each of them were able to reach double-figures for the game. That kind of scoring balance makes this Bulls team a tough one to beat. Hopefully that kind of offensive output and effort becomes a trend.

The Bulls defense continues to struggle, as they gave up 101 points to the Clippers last night. That must have had Head Coach Tom Thibodeau saying "Darn it.", if not worse, during last night's game. With limited practice time and a shortened pre-season, the Bulls defense is a work in progress. As the team's calling card, expect Thibs to get the Bulls "D" into top form, soon.

MOVING FORWARD:

Very nice TEAM win vs. the LAC to conclude a solid road trip.

It's time to get back to the UC for the home-opener vs. MEM.

Play like "Booz", don't hear the "Boos"...

That's the Carlos Boozer (16 points and 15 rebounds on 8/16 FG Shooting) that Bulls fans have been waiting to see for some time. He absolutely controlled the paint last night, in terms of scoring and rebounding. If he can consistently produce double-doubles like that, he can certainly start quieting down his critics. He played like an All-Star again. Good to see.

Time to smell the "Rose-s", not "foul" play...

Not sure if it's the lack of a pre-season, the summer traveling the world or the added pressure of backing up his MVP status, but whatever the reason, Derrick Rose (6 turnovers and 5 personal fouls) isn't playing like fans are accustomed to seeing him play. He's been careless with the ball, as he's committed 14 turnovers in just 3 games. He needs to relax and let the game come to him.

"Point-ing" out some positive minutes...

After DRose picked up his 4th personal foul with 5:45 left in the 3rd, CJ Watson (8 points and 9 assists on 3/7 FG Shooting) came in and helped turn a 6 point Bulls lead, into a 10 point Bulls lead by quarters end. When DRose picked up his 5th personal foul with 7:46 left in the game, he came into the game and helped the Bulls maintain a double-digit lead. Positive minutes.

"Brew-ing" up a nice quality effort...

Although he played just over 12 minutes last night, Ronnie Brewer (12 points on 5/5 FG shooting) came in, off the bench, and helped spark the Bulls offense. It's nice to see him making his jumpshots. He even went 2 for 2 from beyond the arc. If he can be a scorer, not just a defender on the court, the Bulls will definitely be a much tougher team to beat.

* A 10+ point spark, off the bench, is needed.

MOVING FORWARD:

It's onto "Lob" city to face the Clippers.

They come in with a lot of pre-season hype and expectations.

Might be time to quiet that hype down and make a statement.

"Deja-Vu...a lack of leadership, just like the ECF. Why?"

AFTER THOUGHTS:

"Deng" it, nobody else showed up...

Props go out to Luol Deng (22 points and 10 rebounds on 10/15 FG shooting) because he was the only Chicago Bulls player and/or coach who bothered to show up and play hard last night vs. the Golden State Warriors. He was aggressive, on both ends of the floor, and played with a sense of purpose, as he recorded his first double-double of the season. All-Star level effort again.

Get ready for some more "Booz"...

To be quite honest, Carlos Boozer (6 points and 3 rebounds on 3/7 FG shooting in 26 mins. of action) looks like a lost cause. His stats, last night, were simply anemic. He continues to play soft on the interior, which is not why he was signed to a lucrative contract last off-season. For whatever reason, he's turned into a finesse under-achiever, much like Stacey King back in his day.

Nothing "Rose-y" about that performance...

Why on earth does last season's MVP, Derrick Rose (13 points on 4/17 FG shooting), continue to let Stephen Curry (21 points & 10 assists on 7/12 FG shooting) OWN him on the basketball court? It's mind-boggling. And so is the lack of leadership and effort given out by DRose during last night's game. He played as if he'd rather be somewhere else. Just no excuse for that.

* Shots don't fall sometimes, but effort should always be there.

"Rip" him a new one...

Losing is not a laughing matter, unless you are Rip Hamilton (10 points on 5/12 FG shooting) apparently. The cameras caught him laughing and/or smiling on the bench, late in the 4th Quarter, with the Bulls on the verge of a loss. That is down-right shameful and insulting, on his part. It shows a lack of focus and leadership from someone who is supposed to bring that to this team.

* That kind of behavior will make a player lose fans, quickly.

MOVING FORWARD:

This was a bad loss by the Bulls. The leadership and scoring needs to be better.

Sacramento just beat the Lakers, so the Bulls better come ready to play for 48 mins.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Feels "Deng" good to step-up...

Hopefully the Chicago Bulls found their second "go-to-guy", in the 4th Quarter, as Luol Deng (21 Points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals on 7/19 FG Shooting) played like an All-Star late in the game. He scored 9 points, in the 4th Quarter, to go with his game-saving steal and game-saving block. That's how you make an All-Star impression on national television. All-Stars close out games.

Running with the Bulls, in L.A...

The Chicago Bulls looked headed for a defeat, as they trailed the Los Angeles Lakers 82-71 with 3 minutes and 44 seconds left in the 4th Quarter. Then the Bulls, sparked by Luol Deng's 4th Quarter heroics, Tom Thibodeau's defense and bad free-throw shooting from the Lakers, charged back and went on a 17-5 run to close out the game and get the victory. 48 minute effort.

* DRose (22 pts. on 9/13 FG Shooting) hit the game-winner.

Halftime ends when the 3rd Quarter starts...

That is something that the Bulls' players and coaches might want to remember. For whatever reason, the Bulls played flat, sloppy and selfish basketball during the 3rd Quarter, which saw them give up a 7 point Halftime lead to the Lakers, as they only managed to score 12 points, as a team. Not too mention, they shot a putrid 5/23 from the field during that period. Yikes.

Not a Rip roaring time in Los Angeles...

It probably wasn't the debut that Rip Hamilton (6 points and 5 fouls on 3/8 FG shooting) wanted or expected, but at least the Bulls won the game. The new Starting Shooting Guard for the Bulls struggled to find any offense, as he found himself in foul trouble early and often. A lack of practice time and familiarity with the Bulls system didn't help matters. Adjust.

MOVING FORWARD:

It's a back-to-back from Los Angeles to Golden State.

Time to re-focus and re-charge.

After holding a lead at the end of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters of the game, Derrick Rose (23 points, 6 assists and 7 costly turnovers on 8/27 FG Shooting) and the rest of his teammates, once again, failed to close out the victory. Settling for jumpshots and turning the ball over, 22 times, isn't the way to go.

Without LEADERSHIP, there is no success.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Games are 48 mins. long, not 12...

Apparently, the Chicago Bulls' players and coaches didn't get the memo that playoff games are 48 minutes long and not 12. After ending the 1st Quarter with a 26-19 lead, the Bulls fell apart offensively, which led to them being outscored by 17 points in the final three quarters. Subsequently, they lost the game and allowed the Miami Heat to steal away their home-court advantage.

* Staying focused and aggressive is important.

Shooting bricks, not baskets...

For the game, the Bulls went 28/82 from the field. That calculates out to 34% for the game, which is dreadful. Quite honestly, the team captains set the tone for that atrocious shooting performance. Derrick Rose (21 points and 8 assists) went 7/23, Luol Deng (13 points and 5 rebounds) 5/15 and Carlos Boozer (7 points and 8 rebounds) 3/10. Kyle Korver finished 1/7.

* Each of them played SOFT and SCARED.

This "L" didn't stand for Leadership...

Quite frankly, there was no leadership shown from any of the Bulls' players and/or coaches prior to or during last night's game. If there were, than the Bulls would have been more motivated and better prepared to play and win a 48 min. game, which obviously they weren't. Game 2 needed to be played like a Game 7, which is wasn't. That's a leadership problem. It needs to be fixed.

* Without leadership, there is no success.

24 minutes of Madness on Madison...

That's what the 2nd Half of Game 1 vs. the Miami Heat turned into. After being tied 48-48 at the break, the Chicago Bulls decided to crank up their defense and rebounding, as they held the Miami Heat to just 34 points in the final 24 minutes of the game. On the offensive end of the floor, the Bulls put on a show for the hometown crowd scoring 55 points of their own. Message sent.

The Big Struggle for the Big Two...

One would have thought that Dwyane Wade (18 points on 7/17 FG shooting) and LeBron James (15 points on 5/15 FG shooting) were in for a big nights after each of them got dunks, off fast breaks, to start the game, but that wasn't the case. In fact, Ronnie Brewer (8 points on 3/5 FG shooting) and Luol Deng (21 points on 7/15 FG shooting) gave the two All-Stars real fits.

* Being the aggressors, on both ends, can wear All-Stars down.

Mobbed (and dunked on) by Gibson...

What a game for Taj Gibson (9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks on 4/8 FG shooting). Not only did he lead the way for another dominating performance by The Bulls' Bench Mob, but he also turned Dwyane Wade and Mike Miller (0 points on 0 FGA's) into posters. The two dunks he had were amazing. They electrified the UC crowd and made highlight reels forever.

Leadership is all about Accountability...

After making some really careless TO's in the 1st Half of last night's game, Derrick Rose (28 points and 6 assists on 10/22 FG shooting) showed great leadership ability, as he held himself accountable at halftime and vowed that he nor his team would be turning the ball over in the 2nd Half. Apparently, he's a man of his word. He had 0 TO's in the 2nd Half, while the team had just 1.

Powering Forward to the ECF's...

Led by Carlos Boozer (23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists on 10/16 FG shooting), who has his All-Star groove back, the Bulls are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since they won the NBA title back in 1998. CBooz and his fellow teammates came out aggressive from the opening tip, put the Hawks away early and thus sent a strong message to the Heat.

* THE MESSAGE: They are more than a 1-man band.

Assisting in on the Victory...

As a team, the Bulls were able to create 34 assists to go with their 41 made field goals for the game. That's how you space the floor and move the ball around. The Bulls really put on a passing clinic last night. CBooz and Luol Deng (13 points and 5 rebounds on 6/14 FG shooting) each had 5 assists, while Derrick Rose (19 points and 4 rebounds on 8/14 FG shooting) finished with 12.

Trusting in a Balanced Attack...

In Games 5 and 6 to close out this 2nd Round series vs. the Hawks, the Bulls were able to get 5 of their players in double-figures. Counting last night's victory, the Bulls are 25-3 (4-0 during this year's playoffs) when at least five of their players reach double-digits. That's what you call a winning formula. Trust like that could very well win them the NBA championship this year.

Mobbed by Gibson...

With Game 5 and this 2nd Round series on the line, Taj Gibson (11 points and 2 rebounds on 5/5 FG shooting) provided a huge 4th Quarter effort for the Bulls. Not only did he score all his points in the final 12 minutes of the game, but he played with great energy and emotion, which excited his teammates and the United Center crowd. He needs to stay ready and focused.

Being the Aggressors...

It was great to see the Bulls start strong and finish strong last night. They ended up outscoring the Hawks by double-digits in both the 1st and 4th Quarters. The two players that set an aggressive tone were Derrick Rose (33 points and 9 assists on 11/24 FG shooting) and Luol Deng (23 points and 4 rebounds on 8/18 FG shooting), who got to the FT-line 20 times between them.

Get rid of that Cough...

Despite coming out fast and building a 15 point lead in the 1st Quarter, the Bulls managed to cough it all up and give the Hawks the lead back late in the 3rd Quarter. That's bad lead management on the part of the Bulls' players and coaches. In both the 2nd and 3rd Quarters, the Bulls got outscored by 5 points. That can happen when they settle for jumpshots or turn the ball over.

* They still need to work on being a 48 min. team.

Thibs learns Trust...

With Game 5 and most likely the series in the balance, Tom Thibodeau made a smart decision by trusting his depth and finishing the game with 3 reserves on the floor. Joakim Noah (0 points and 6 rebounds) and Kyle Korver (0 points) were virtually non-existent, for some reason, and CBooz (11 points and 12 rebounds) was struggling on defense, so they needed to sit.

* Without that kind of trust, this team won't win it all.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Still Not a 48 min. Team...

For the 31st time this season, Tom Thibodeau sat back, watched his superstar be selfish and allowed his team to get outscored by double-digits during the most important quarter of the season, to this point. With an opportunity to go up 3-1 vs. the Hawks in this 2nd Round match-up, the Bulls got outcoached, outplayed, outworked and eventually outscored 33-18 in the 4th.

* Selfishness and stubborness won't get it done.

No Trust, No Victory...

That was the case, last night, when it comes to Game 4. Derrick Rose (34 points and 10 assists) had a double-double, but he clearly played selfishly, which cost his team the victory. For the game, he had 32 FG attempts. Down the stretch, he obviously tried to be a "one-man band" instead of trusting his teammates to score the ball. As MJ can a test to, that won't get it done.

* The 5 guys on the floor need to be scoring options.

Scared to Score...

It sure looks like the Bulls' wing players are afraid to be aggressive and score the basketball. For the game, Luol Deng (13 points on 5/14 FG shooting), Kyle Korver (2 points on 1/8 FG shooting), Ronnie Brewer (0 points on 0/2 FG shooting) and CJ Watson (0 points on 0/1 FG shooting) went a combined 6/25 from the field for only 15 points. That's grade school gym class material.

* Luol Deng only has 11 FTA's this series. 30 vs. IND.

CBooz, bouncing back...

The only real bright-spot from last night's game was Carlos Boozer (18 points and 6 rebounds on 7/10 FG shooting). Up until the 4th Quarter, where he absolutely disappeared, he played a pretty solid game. He had his mid-range jumper going and was able to get down in the post for some easy baskets. He needs to build of the sucesses he had in Game 4 and keep his scoring up.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

(D) Rose in Full Bloom...

In the words of Stacey King, "This kid is special." Of course, that comment was uttered during a regular season game to describe Derrick Rose (44 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds on 16/27 FG shooting). However, it could have easily been used again last night, as DRose had a career night and delivered another MVP-type performance, while leading his team to a victory.

Doubt him all you want. He knows how to "walk the walk."

Bullish Bench Production...

It's been awhile since I have used this topic heading, but I just had to break it out again after last night's performance by the Bulls' Bench Mob. The Bulls' bench was simply bullish last night, especially in the 1st Half. They outscored the Hawks' bench 21-6 by halftime and 34-14 by the end of the game. Kyle Korver (11 pts.) and Taj Gibson were the catalysts of that production.

Gentlemen, Start(er) Your Offense, Please...

Outside of DRose going for a career high 44 pts. last night, the other 4 Bulls' starters struggled to score the basketball. Combined they went 9/30 from the field for only 21 points. That said, Luol Deng (6 pts. and 6 rbs. on 3/10 FG shooting) and Joakim Noah (2 pts. and 15 rbs. on 1/8 FG shooting) may not have shot the ball well, but they did find other ways to help the team win.

Both guys played solid defense and went after rebounds.

Powering Forward, with....

Who Tom Thibodeau should start or play at Power Forward remains up for debate. Once again, Carlos Boozer (6 points and 6 rebounds on 3/6 FG shooting) found himself in early foul trouble and thus headed to the bench, only to see Taj Gibson (13 points and 11 rebounds on 5/9 FG shooting) come in and play like a 9 year veteran and former All-Star. Where's the accountabililty?

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Energy and Rebounding...

Those two things were the keys to the Bulls' victory last night. Joakim Noah (19 points and 14 rebounds on 6/8 FG shooting) brought the energy and Luol Deng (14 points and 12 rebounds) provided some late-game rebounding, which propelled the Bulls to a must win in Game 2 vs. the Atlanta Hawks. Both those guys are team captains, so they need to be leaders. They were.

Bad offense, Bad Turnovers...

With the Bulls' offense out of sync and quite frankly a mess right now, Derrick Rose (25 points, 10 assists and 8 costly turnovers on 10/27 FG shooting) is clearly trying to force things. The lack of consistent scoring by his teammates, in particular Carlos Boozer (8 points on 4/12 FG shooting), is causing him to commit too many bad turnovers and take too many bad 3pt. shots.

* A shake-up, if not wake-up, is needed at PF.

An MVP, on and off the court...

Prior to Game 2, David Stern was in the building to present Derrick Rose with the 2011 NBA MVP award. It's an honor that was well-deserved for a young man, who carried the Bulls to the best record in the NBA, while representing his hometown city of Chicago with nothing but class and character. As the Commish said, "He's the full package." Can't argue there.

More Boos, than Booz...

Unfortunately, the United Center crowd decided to express their displeasure with Carlos Boozer's lack of offense by boo-ing him repeatedly last night. Granted, I have been a negative critic of his throughout the season, but I don't feel like boo-ing him at home is the way to go. That said, I do believe Tom Thibodeau needs to move him to a 6th-man role. A change is needed.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

No focus or execution, start to finish...

After watching the Bulls start slow and struggle to put away a scrappy Pacers team in Round 1, one would expect the newly crowned "Coach of the Year", Tom Thibodeau, to have his team better motivated and prepared to play vs. the Atlanta Hawks. Guess not. Instead, he sat back and watched his team get worked over in the 1st and 4th Quarters, which led to his team's loss.

A Jack, a Joe and a Jamal...

The soon to be MVP of the NBA, Derrick Rose (24 points and 10 assists on 11/27 FG shooting), played selfish, not aggressive last night. That was evident do to the fact he had 0 FTA's in Game 1. Jack-ing up bad shots won't get it done. On the other hand, Joe Johnson (34 points on 12/18 FG shooting) and Jamal Crawford (22 pts. on 8/16 FG shooting) played great.

Deng it, bring the passion...

From the outside looking in, it appeared as though Luol Deng (21 points and 6 rebounds on 8/12 FG shooting) was the only Bulls' player to bring any passion or purpose to the basketball court last night. That said, even he managed to disappear in the 2nd Half, as he scored just 4 points in the final 24 minutes of the game. Hello. It takes a 48 minute effort to win playoff games.

Taking Quarters Off...

What else is knew. Tom Thibodeau, once again, watched his team get outscored by double-digits in a quarter. It happened for the 30th time this season during the 1st Quarter (28-18) of the Game 1 loss vs. the Atlanta Hawks. That's unacceptable at this point. And speaking of taking quarters off, Carlos Boozer (14 points and 8 rebounds) was a no show in the 1st half.

* Effort, not excuses!!!

AFTER THOUGHTS:

Sweet "116" Party...

The Bulls threw an offensive party last night, as they were able to put up 116 points on the Pacers. When it was all said and done, 6 Bulls' players found themselves in double figures. Derrick Rose led the way with 25, followed by Luol Deng with 24, but Keith Bogans stole the show by coming up with 15 points on 5/7 FG shooting from behind the arc. Great balance.

Lost Invitation to the Party...

The only Bulls' player who didn't show up to the Sweet "116" Party was Carlos Boozer (2 points and 5 rebounds on 1/5 FG shooting), who once again picked up 2 early fouls and then proceeded to mentally check out of the game. I realize Tom Thibodeau is a stubborn Head Coach, who doesn't like change, but it might be time to bring CBooz off the bench, as a 6th-man.

The Sparring Session is Over...

This 1st Round Playoff series between the Bulls and Pacers was both testy and physical, as I predicted it would be. To stick with my boxing analogy, it was a very competitive and hard fought sparring session. That said, the Bulls did well to put an end to it in 5 games. Now, it's time for them to set their sites on their championship tune up fight, which awaits them in Round 2.

Passionate Bulls' Fans, not Players...

With a an opportunity to put away the Indiana Pacers and move on to the 2nd Round of the Playoffs, the Chicago Bulls laid an early Easter egg on Saturday afternoon. For whatever the reason, Bulls' fans, who packed Conseco Fieldhouse, brought more passion and a sense of purpose to the arena, as compared to that of the Bulls' players themselves. There really is no excuse for that.

Settling and not Finishing...

I realize Derrick Rose (15 points and 10 assists on 6/22 FG shooting) rolled his ankle in the 1st Half of the game, but after getting some quick treatment and returning to the game, he seemed to be fine. That begs the question, "Why then, would he settle for so many bad 3pt. shots, instead of taking it strong to the basket?" As a team, the Bulls' went 3/20 from the arc.

Taking Quarters Off...

The Bulls just can't seem to shake their bad trend of taking quarters off. Yesterday, it happened for the 29th time this season. In the 2nd Quarter, the Pacers essentially put the game out of reach, as they managed to outscore the Bulls 26-14. Individually speaking, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer only managed to score 10 points, combined, in the 1st Half.

Where's the consistency?

Energy and Effort...

The only Chicago Bulls' player that played yesterday's potential closeout game the right way was Joakim Noah (21 points and 14 rebounds on 8/13 FG shooting). He had no problem "meeting the moment" and giving a 48 minute effort. That said, his teammates need to learn from the example he set and start playing with more passion and purpose as they head into Game 5.

AFTER THOUGHTS:

The "Captain" of this ship...

He's not Jack Dawson and this isn't Titanic, but after watching last night's game I couldn't help but think of the inspiring dinner toast from that movie. Derrick Rose (23 points on 13/15 FT shooting) had only 1 FG in the entire 2nd Half of Game 3, but he certainly "made it count". His game-winning FG essentially prevented the Bulls from crashing into an iceberg and/or losing.

* Creatively speaking, you have to love analogies.

Moving Aggressively "Forward"...

Could it be that Luol Deng (21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists on 8/19 FG shooting) has decided to be more aggressive during the playoffs? Let's hope so, because his aggressiveness and ability to score early in the game certainly kept the Bulls afloat and in-line for the win. As far as this playoff series goes, Luol Deng has proven to be the best all-around player on the floor.

Putting the C- in CBooz...

For whatever the reason, Carlos Boozer (only 4 points, but 11 rebounds on 2/10 FG shooting) has been nothing short of average, if not worse than that, during the latter part of the season and into the playoffs. What happened to the 20 and 10 guy the Bulls were supposed to be getting when they decided to sign him to a big contract? A demotion to "6th-man" might be in order.

Gimme more "Hot Sauce"...

Granted, that phrase may be getting over-used by Stacey King during Bulls' telecasts, however, I can't say I dislike hearing it. When the words "Gimme the hot sauce" are uttered, every Bulls' fan knows that Kyle Korver (12 points on 5/6 FG shooting) just hit another big shot. Thankfully, we keep hearing that phrase spoken a lot in the 4th Quarters of this series, last night included.
